Joan and Nubby Haefner

Joan and Norbert Haefner have been married for over 50 years and recently celebrated their milestone anniversary.

Joan grew up in the countryside of Newark Valley, New York, and moved to Rochester during her junior year of college in 1962. A devoted nurse, she retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield after decades of dedicated service. As the matriarch of the family, Joan is known for her warm, nurturing spirit and her creative passions—especially quilting and crafts. She still lives in the Rochester home where she and Norbert raised their four daughters. Joan shares a special bond with Victoria, her first grandchild, and has always felt they were soulmates.

Norbert, lovingly known as "Nubby" to friends and family, grew up in Rochester alongside 16 siblings. He has always cherished being part of a large family and remains deeply connected to them. A talented golfer, Norbert competed in the Canadian Open and founded his own golf league, which he ran for over a decade before retiring. He is always the first one to crack a joke and has a great sense of humor. These days, he enjoys regular visits to the gym to see his daughter Marya and catching up with longtime friends.
